Design Agency Life: Shaping Superpowers

Our unique mix of people shapes the business we are, and so in this series of Thought pieces, we want to celebrate our team, and give you an insight into the individual talents you’ll find at Design Activity!

Welcome to Senior Account Manager Penny, our newest team member. With only a few weeks in the office before lockdown came, she’s been properly thrown in at the deep end, but 6 months in and she’s doing an amazing job!

What was your first job?

At 15 I started working in a local pub. My first session went brilliantly, with a £25 tip from one happy couple. I thought “how lucky am I to have landed this!”. Sadly, it all went a little downhill after that with tips of closer to 50p, and one unlucky guy who ended up with pouring cream all over his lap – oops!

What was the first music single CD you bought?

A little embarrassing, but it was the Baywatch theme tune sang by David Hasselhoff. In my defence (although it might show my age) Baywatch was all the rage at the time (well at least I thought so)!

What’s the most rewarding part of your job?

I love seeing ideas brought to life, whether that’s events, advertising campaigns or packaging design. Seeing the process from that first brief right through to a consumers reaction and knowing I’ve played my part in the creative process is exhilarating.

Where is the most interesting place you’ve been?

I’m lucky enough to have been to some amazing places all over the world. I not only spent 7 months travelling after University, but also more recently lived and worked in Australia for a couple of years. Everywhere I’ve been has had elements I’ve loved so it’s hard to decide.

I loved Australia for it’s amazing outdoors. It has such stunning landscapes and of course the beautiful beaches. I also thought Las Vegas was amazing, but for completely different reasons. It’s so alive, all the time! The fact that the trip was free (a competition prize won by my boyfriend) also helped the enjoyment!!
