Design Agency Life: Celebrating Superpowers

Our unique mix of people shapes the agency we are, and so in this series of Thoughts pieces we give you an insight into the unique and individual talents you’ll find at Design Activity!

Here we’re talking with Middleweight Designer, Hannah.

Why did you decide to become a Designer?

I’ve always loved art and drawing, but really wanted what I created to be more functional than just beautiful, so being in Graphic Design means I can create ‘art with a purpose’.

Do you have any phobias?

Elevators – I once got stuck in one, and although I actually wasn’t in there for very long it felt like an eternity and now I’ll always take the stairs if I can!

What luxury would you have on a desert island?

Definitely something to listen to music with. I love just sitting in the sun listening to music so at least I could make the most of being deserted!

And what would you be listening to?

Something relaxing, with an acoustic guitar – like Ben Howard.

Where is the most interesting place you’ve been?

I loved it in Falmouth where I went to Uni. The people and the atmosphere is so creative there, and being a smaller University there is a real sense of community. Being by the sea means it’s also a very chilled-out place, and being able to hang out the beach whenever you want is amazing!

What was your first job?

I worked in Homebase before Uni and went back during the summer holidays. It was a pretty standard job but one of the days I was helping a customer reach a 5lt tub of paint and managed to spill the entire contents all over myself and the floor. It made the biggest mess, and typically was the last tub of that colour in the store.

What inspires you?

Anything creative. I obviously love working in a design agency, but what we do is such a small part of the creative world. There are so many amazing people creating beautiful things – my Instagram feed is full of it!
